In a new world full of people with cell phones and Internet access, many things are changing. Advertising is one of them. Companies that actually provide mobile ads have popped up and made a huge splash. AdMob, for example, was acquired by Google for a whopping $750 million. And while these companies are certainly captivating the true necessity for businesses to adapt to the Internet landscape, smaller businesses have also sprung up. Business like Capital Region Advertising have become leading advertising agencies in their areas. For Capital Region Advertising, they have come to be a significant factor in Albany advertising. Cities like Albany are, in fact, great "targets" for these types of businesses. Numerous nearby colleges and an active bar/club scene provide a lot of young people who have their mobile devices with them practically 24/7. Before, these people could only be advertised to with billboards, TV commercials, or newspaper classifieds. But the phones in their pockets have become the new billboards, and businesses are noticing the results.

A prime "case study" of the effects of this type of advertising is with the iPhone App "BattleBears". Just from mobile advertising, the app's free downloads increased 1000%. Its paid app downloads increased by 300%, and it jumped from a barely-known app to the #59 free app and the #29 paid app. And companies like MTV, Ubisoft, Qualcomm, Acuvue, Reebok, Ford, Coca-Cola, EA, P&G, Land Rover, Adidas, Paramount Pictures, AccuWeather, BluePulse, CBS Mobile, Flirtomatic, Hollywood.com, Peperonity, and TinyTube have used mobile advertising to drastically increase sales and product awareness. It's impressive stuff! But why does it work so well? Well, a standard advertisement is just...there. You can't touch a billboard, a classified ad won't offer more information or be interactive, a TV commercial will only be available at certain times on certain channels, and there is very little control over who is actually seeing your ads. A mobile advertisement can be targeted, released at any time, customized, and it's interactive. If it links to a website, it can also increase traffic and lead to a little extra advertising money. Whether it's Capital Region Advertising dominating the Albany advertising market, or a nearly-billion-dollar company serving huge companies, mobile advertising is becoming the new and best way to advertise.
